Avoid These 5 Common Carpet Cleaning Mistakes to Keep Your Floors Looking Flawless
Your resume might be submitted to a potential employer, but you later discover a typo in the third paragraph. You might text your friend an invitation to your party but then realize the last digit should have been a 4 instead of a 7. You might have ordered onion rings but got curly fries because you mixed up the menu.
The above mistakes seem laughable and easily correctable. However, if you make these mistakes with your carpet, you may cause irreversible damage and shorten the lifespan of your flooring.
You wait to clean up the spill
You may find traces of an accident the next day or even the next week if you're busy or not present when a spill occurs.
Waiting to address a stain can lead to tougher removal. Liquids can soak through the fibres, while certain materials bond quickly, making them impossible. There are a few exceptions; set stains generally require professional techniques and cannot be removed with basic products or carpet cleaning.
Cleaning products are not tested by you
In your hurry to clean a spill, you may be tempted to grab the nearest all-purpose cleaner and attack the offending stain. If you don't read the label, you may use chemicals that are too harsh for your carpets type. Always follow the label instructions to avoid permanent damage. It is always a good idea to test a product on an extra carpet or in a discreet area, such as the bottom corner of a closet or wardrobe, even if it seems suitable for carpeting.
Too much powder is used
You can purchase powdered products designed to help you handle spills and odours as they occur. While these powders may work to some extent, we do not recommend them. Usually, they leave a residue and some damp powder on the carpet. To remove the stain, we recommend a procedure in which the product used to assist in the removal process is rinsed out.
The build-up of powder in your carpet can also be caused by overuse or inadequate suction from your vacuum cleaner if you use it sparingly. Make sure your vacuum cleaner has a motorized power head (beating brush) and is in good working order if you intend to use a powdered product. Use it sparingly if you intend to use one.
You vigorously scrub
You might immediately think that scrubbing the stain as hard as you can remove it. After all, elbow grease and a little old-fashioned scrubbing will do the trick.
You risk spreading the stain deeper into the pile if you rub vigorously. Furthermore, vigorous scrubbing can cause the fibres to untwist and fray, causing an unsightly fuzz effect that can be more visible than the stain itself.
You do all the cleaning yourself
DIY homeowners may try to maintain every aspect of their homes themselves. They vacuum their floors regularly to prevent dirt and debris from building up. They place mats at the entryway and clean the areas directly leading to carpeted areas.
